Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Although we did not rate this nursing home highly overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A- in this category. Our inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid places with a list of deficiencies flagged. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we gave this nursing home a B in our long-term care category. This happens to be one of our more impressive scores. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a life threatening ailment for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. In computing a facility's nursing grade, we look at the amount of time nurses are with patients and the skill levels of those nurses. With just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were far below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This place fared well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we looked at is short-term care. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in that category. Short-term care ratings are crucial for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. This means a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this facility offers significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.7 percent of its residents returning home.
