Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in this area with a grade of A-. Our inspection ratings are based on many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's more impressive category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a B. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are well cared for. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the elderly population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Our nursing grade focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our last category is short-term care, in which we gave this facility a C in this area. Our short-term care grades are probably most critical for residents needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. It does not look like this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 4.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.
