Facility Inspections
On top of faring well overall, this facility also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Among the reasons we rated this facility so well is that it was given a very impressive short-term care score. In fact, short-term care ended up being its second best category score. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of A. Our short-term care grades are important for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who returned to the community from this facility. This place outperformed the overwhelming majority of facilities in the nation with 59.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. We scrutinized the levels of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses were with patients, in calculating our grade in this area. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Of this total, more than one fourth of these hours were provided by registered nurses, which is among the most skilled levels of nurses. We add more weight to hours provided by skilled nurses in determining our nursing grades. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we scored was long-term care, where this nursing home was given a B-. Although this proved to be its lowest category score, this is nevertheless not a terrible score. With our long-term care grade, we weigh the amount of services provided by a nursing home, as well as a series of quality metrics. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable statistic. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.32 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
