Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Nursing scores are mostly based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics. While this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this statistic. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving patients even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this facility a grade of just D for our long-term care rating. This is not one of our better scores. Long-term care ratings in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home provided the vaccine to only 89.7747 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we scored was short-term care. It received a lowly F in this area, which is an abysmal score. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is considered to be a fair measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 3.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
