Nurse Quality
We also want to emphasize the fact that this nursing home excelled in our nursing rating. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Our nursing category assesses quite a few datapoints, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This place provides an incredible 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home in the country in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
This first-rate nursing home also dominated in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. In our short-term care rating, we strive to forge a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. The last measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Colorado in this area with 66.5 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our next category, this facility was given an excellent long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a score of A- in this category. For residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. This nursing home's vaccination records were a bit weaker than some of the other datapoints in this area, such as its number of nursing hours per resident. It gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 77.87234 percent of its patients. We'd love to see some improvement in this area in the future. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
Lastly, this facility also received excellent government inspection reports in recent years. We awarded it one of our best scores in the area of inspections, with a grade of A-. Few facilities earned an A- or better in every category. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
