In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to offering very favorable levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. This combination proved to be successful as this place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A+. In computing a facility's nursing score, we look at the number of hours nurses are seeing residents and the level of licensure of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 6.8 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This was one of the higher figures we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With below 5 percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any place the nation in this category.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Inspection grades are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
