Facility Inspections
While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection grades are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that this facility earned a reasonably solid long-term care rating this year. We awarded it a B- in that area. With our long-term care score, we weigh the sheer volume of care offered by a nursing home, as well as some quality measures. One of the factors we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccines. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to only 68.80734 percent of its patients. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home wound up receiving a a very poor score in our short-term care category. It was given an F in this category. With our short-term care category, we endeavor to craft a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. With its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
Nurse Quality
The next area we rated is nursing, where this nursing home received an abysmal grade in this category as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is obviously a major concern. The nursing grade assesses many data points, however, the most important consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This place offered only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is an alarmingly low total. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this facility's nursing grade quite a bit.
