On top of receiving an elite overall grade, this nursing home also earned an A+ inspection grade. This is based on the facility's recent government inspections. An A+ in this category is one of the best complements we can pay to a nursing home. Our inspection grades are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also wanted to alert you to the fact that this facility performed remarkably in our long-term care category. We gave them an elite grade of A+ in this area. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. While we determined this facility has an above average volume of nursing hours provided by nurses aids and other nursing staff, we found its vaccination rate to be somewhat slightly lower than we anticipated. This nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 88.11189 percent of its patients. This is a statistic we would love to see this facility improve. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.68 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes.

In addition, this facility received high marks in the area of nursing. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Our nursing grade assesses a handful of subcategories, however, the paramount consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the higher totals of nursing hours we found at any facility. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With below five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is often an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by offering better nursing care and a system of moving patients even once per day.

Moving on to the last area, this facility also was given an A+ short-term care grade, making it one of the few of facilities to achieve all A+'s. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This category is typically a solid assessment of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Remarkably, this nursing home provides roughly 50% more hours of services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most facilities we assessed. This is a very favorable sign. The last measure we assessed in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any facility in New Jersey in this area with 57.5 percent of its residents returning home. At most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
