Inspection ratings are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Long-term Care Quality
This facility truly excelled in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of A-. Only a select group of facilities performed more favorably in this area. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 83.25991 percent of its residents, which is a few points lower than we were hoping for. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. The nursing rating weighs several datapoints, many of which are based on nursing hours. This particular nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is significantly below average. Lastly, nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a B-. While this proved to be its weakest category rating, this is still not a bad grade. Short-term care grades are often employed to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
