Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home fared well in our long-term care category. We gave it an A- for that area. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
Inspections is another area where this nursing home excelled. In fact, we awarded this nursing home an B+ for our inspections category. This grade is far more impressive than its overall grade. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing rating. In fact, we gave this facility an D. There are quite a few criteria within this grade. Most of the criteria are tied to staffing levels. This nursing home provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the final area, this facility didn't perform very well. Due to an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is its worst area. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Given its grade in this category, we were not stunned to find that this facility is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 2.2 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.
