Long-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the well above average quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the facility's vaccination data. By way of example, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. This combination proved to be successful as this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Our nursing score is primarily based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular facility provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This was one of the more impressive figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant portion of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. In addition to providing impressive levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any facility in the nation in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.
Facility Inspections
Continuing with its amazing performance, this nursing home also received an A+ inspection score. This grade is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The fourth category we scored is short-term care, where this facility received an A-. This topped off a first-rate report card. Very few facilities earned an A- or higher in every category. In forming our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
