Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home really excelled in nursing, where it earned an C. Few places fared better in this category. Nursing ratings are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home actually excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that this facility received a somewhat respectable short-term care score in our assessment. We gave it a C in that category. In the category of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average facility. The hope is that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we graded is long-term care. We gave it a lowly F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a bad sign for resident care and it may mean that the nursing home is not as well-staffed. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this nursing home administered the vaccine to a relatively low 28.244272 percent of its patients, which is not a very encouraging sign. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
