Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, we also would like to point out that this nursing home was awarded favorable long-term care marks in this assessment. We awarded them one of our higher scores in this area, with a grade of B+. This turned out to be the facility's second strongest score. When facilities receive this type of score in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a great way to avoid negative health outcomes for the nursing home population. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. We analyzed the levels of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the number of hours the nurses spent with patients, in determining our score in this category. This place averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is well below average. Finally, nursing grades also consider quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home's weakest category was short-term care, which is the last category we assessed. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this category. Even with a few decent grades in other categories, this grade is still of a concern so we felt obligated to point it out. Our short-term care scores are crucial for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provided less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average facility. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.8 percent of its residents returning home.
