In addition to receiving a great overall score, this nursing home also received an A+ short-term care grade. In computing our short-term care grades, we analyze a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is more often than not a fair measure of the facility's rehabilitation. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 5.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Adding to its dominant achievements in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our long-term care rating. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. This place is off the charts in this category.

Another impressive feature of this nursing home is its inspection rating. In that category, we awarded this facility a score of A. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

In our final area, we gave this facility a grade of A for its nursing grade. This wrapped up a first-rate report card. In determining our nursing ratings, we look at both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these data points as good indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
