Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our nursing rating. When computing our nursing grades, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. While this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of these quality metrics. With less than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed well in this subcategory. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of turning a patient even once per day.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to discover that this facility received a somewhat respectable short-term care rating this year. We awarded it a C in this area. In calculating these short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to devise a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 3.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below average.

Facility Inspections
We wanted to point out that this facility received a lowly F for its inspection score. An F in this area is alarming because it usually points to red flags on the nursing home's government inspections. We would advise paying special attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection grade. We recommend you pay close attention to the level of severity of the deficiencies. This particular facility was hit with 2 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they caused a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, we need to draw your attention to the fact that this place was assessed significant government fines recently totaling more than $100,000. This usually suggests that a facility's bad track record has been an issue for several years.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our final area, this facility didn't perform well here either. With a poor grade of F in long-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. Long-term care scores in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We found that this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 80.523254 percent of its residents, which is not a very encouraging sign. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
