In fact, it received the absolute highest grade. We were not surprised to discover that this is actually the best nursing home in Rock Island. In addition to receiving a great overall score, this nursing home also received an A+ short-term care grade. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. This place is the gold standard in terms of skilled nursing staffing. In fact, it provided roughly one and a half times as many registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in this area with 67.3 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
This nursing home also received an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This score is based on the nursing home's inspection reports. An A+ in this category is one of the best complements we can pay to a facility. Inspection grades are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. The third category we assessed is long-term care. Contributing to its impressive resume, this nursing home also performed well in this area. In fact, we gave it a grade of of A in the category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. It doesn't appear that this nursing home provided information about vaccinations. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
In our final area, this nursing home also received an impressive nursing grade, with an A. This topped off a rare straight A profile. There are a host of criteria included in this area. Many of the subcategories reflect levels of nurse staffing. This place boasts a really impressive 5.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any nursing home in the state in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided.
