Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home really performed well in long-term care. We gave it a grade of A for that category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 97.2973 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection grades are tied to several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of B- in this category. In computing our nursing grades, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This place provides only 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a somewhat discouraging figure which is well below the national average. Finally, while this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of our quality metrics. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared remarkably well in this statistic.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to our final category, this nursing home didn't fare well. Due to a poor grade of F in short-term care, this is this nursing home's weakest area. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. In this facility's case, it looks like it offers less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. The final measure we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 2.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics was damning for this facility's short-term care grade.
