Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we graded this facility extremely poorly overall, it received a somewhat respectable nursing rating this year. We gave it a B- in that category. Nursing grades are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics. While this place got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this metric. This is typically an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving patients more often.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also stunned to find that this facility received a solid short-term care score in our assessment. We awarded it a B- in this category. In computing these short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The final measure we assessed in this category is the number of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was awarded just a D in that category. For patients seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 99.19192 percent of its residents, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
In our last category of inspections, this facility received an F in this area. Since this information is collected by independent government inspectors, we heavily weight negative feedback in this area. With places that received this poor of an inspection grade, we would scrutinize the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Amazingly, this particular nursing didn't have any deficiencies on its inspection report. Clearly, this was not the area dragging down its inspection grade. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
