Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although this facility's overall score is not a highlight, it actually received a somewhat respectable score in the category of inspections. We awarded it a grade of B- for that area, which is not bad. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's second most favorable category is short-term care. We awarded it a B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road score in this area. Our short-term care grade is often used to measure a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The final metric we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. Our nursing rating weighs a handful of datapoints, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a relatively low total compared with most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. While this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this area. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a resident more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we analyzed was long-term care, in which this facility received a rock bottom grade in this area as well. We gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is definitely a major concern. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care scores. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an above average total. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
