Facility Inspections
The primary reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better grades in that category, with an A+. This is a notably better grade than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had favorable view of this facility's inspections.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given a strong long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of B in that area, which happens to be one of our more favorable scores. For residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 83.19672 percent of its patients, which is a bit lower than we anticipated. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.53 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.

Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. We gave this nursing home an impressive grade of D. The nursing rating considers a number of subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home offered just 3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is not a very impressive figure. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed is short-term care. It received an F in this area, which is a rock bottom grade. This is obviously a significant disappointment. Short-term care grades are often used to assess a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. In this nursing home's case, we found that it actually provides far less registered nurse hours per resident than the average nursing home. Given its score in this category, this did not surprise us. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 36.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. This statistic was damning for this facility's short-term care grade.
