Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of considering the elite quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff at this facility, we also were pleased by the facility's record for vaccinations. For example, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 2.84 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this category, this number can be skewed for some nursing homes based on the medical complexity of residents.
Nurse Quality
This first-rate facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing grades are primarily tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provides an incredible 5 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing high levels of care, this place also excelled in several of the quality measures we assessed. With under five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Kansas in this category.
Facility Inspections
Another impressive feature of this facility is its inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
In our final area, this nursing home also was given an excellent short-term care score, with a grade of A-. This topped off an elite report card. Our short-term care grades are likely most important for residents requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of patients who returned home from the facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
