Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although this nursing home's overall grade was rock bottom, it didn't perform as badly in nursing. We awarded it a B- for this category. In calculating a nursing home's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses are caring for residents as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a place has quality controls in place.
Long-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that this facility received a solid long-term care rating in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of B- in that area. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 82.45192 percent of its residents. This is multiple points below what we were hoping for. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the area of short-term care, this facility was awarded just a D in that category. Our short-term care grades are presumably more important for residents in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires more highly-skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 3.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
Facility Inspections
Moving on our final category of inspections, this facility received an abysmal grade. You should pay close attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this bad of an inspection score. We suggest you scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This facility was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they posed a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
