Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is what you want to see in this important metric.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded a favorable short-term care score. In fact, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this area. With our short-term care score, we seek to forge a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. The final measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Georgia in this area with 61.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home is also above average in the category of long-term care, where it was given a grade of B. It outpaced most nursing homes in this category. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 97.88918 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Although it had 2.66 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was close to the middle of the pack since it had some more complicated patients.
Nurse Quality
The last area we scored is nursing, in which this facility was given a grade of B-. This actually turned out to be this facility's worst area. This is nevertheless not a poor grade. We assessed the qualifications of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses were with residents, in calculating our grade in this area. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also considered some quality-based assessments. This place performed well in a few of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home beat the national average. This is often an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided with better nursing care.
