Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While we did not have many positive things to say about this nursing home's overall score, it earned a respectable government inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a B-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of B- in the area. Nursing grades are mostly tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, while this place got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this statistic.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next best category is short-term care. We gave it a B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this area. Short-term care grades are generally employed to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services To provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The question is whether this also affected quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to our next area, we gave this facility a D for long-term care. This is the nursing home's weakest category score. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated 70.88608 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly lower than the national average. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
