Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in this category with an A+. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This facilities second best category is short-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the pack score in this area. In our short-term care category, we attempt to create a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This place fared well in this area with 61.4 percent of its residents returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The third highest area we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a C. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility vaccinated 98.88476 percent of its residents, which is a very solid percentage. This nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Although it had 2.39 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most nursing homes since it had some more complex patients.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored was nursing. We awarded it a grade of C in that area. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this area. In computing our nursing grades, we analyze both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as minimizing major falls. This facility performed admirably in this datapoint.
