Long-term Care Quality
Even though we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a grade of B+ for long-term care. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Without this grade, this place's profile would have been in serious trouble. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 84.97109 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is a bit below what we were hoping for but still a decent figure. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.59 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
Another strength for this facility is its impeccable inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. There are many subcategories included in this area. Many of the factors are tied to staffing levels. This facility provided just 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This facility fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed was short-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this category, which is an abysmal grade. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be most important for individuals requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Given its score in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 39.5 percent of its residents returning home. This was well below the national average.
