Long-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 96.13527 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
Turning to our inspection category, this facility excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A for that category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Our nursing rating analyzes many components, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home provided 10.8 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the better totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We were very impressed by these statistics. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. It performed as well as any nursing home in the state when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was short-term care, in which this nursing home received a B-. Although this ended up being its lowest category grade, this is nevertheless not a terrible score. Short-term care grades are often employed to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This nursing home is above the national average in terms of its quantity of both physical therapy and registered nurse staffing provided to its residents. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually below the national average.
