Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

One of the reasons this place is a quality nursing home is that it received a very impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category. In that area, we gave it a grade of A-. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home really excelled in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. After we finished assessing the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. This place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. While it had 1.76 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was better than the majority of nursing homes due to it having some more complex patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facilities next most favorable area is short-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is essentially a slightly below average grade in this category. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. It performed decently in this area, with 49 percent of its residents returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we assessed is nursing. This nursing home received a grade of B- in this category. Our nursing rating consists of a handful of factors, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. This facility performed admirably in this subcategory. Avoiding serious falls is often an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility offers enough nurses aids to assist its residents.
