Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility received even higher marks in the area of nursing. In fact, we gave it one of our highest grades in this category with an A-. Our nursing grade consists of several components, but the main one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving residents even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility is also above average in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most facilities in this category. In forming our short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, this facility also was awarded favorable long-term care grades in our assessment. Indeed, we awarded it one of our stronger scores in that category, with a score of B. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are well cared for. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 72.916664 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is a few points less than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Lastly, we found that this nursing home has earned favorable inspections in recent years. We awarded it a B- in this area. Our inspection ratings are tied to several data points located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale.
