Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing ratings are largely tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place boasts an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident daily, of which more than one hour of those were provided by registered nurses. This is among the most highly skilled levels of nurses. Finally, this place also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our third category, we gave this facility a grade of A- for its long-term care grade. This is a first-rate grade. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 98.16514 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Short-term Care Quality
In the last category we looked at, this nursing home was given an impressive grade grade of A- in our short-term care category. With this grade, the nursing home rounded out a straight A profile. Our short-term care scores are presumably most critical for residents requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is it provides more care from registered nurses than a typical nursing home. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
