Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home earned near flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this area. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility truly excelled in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given a strong short-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our higher grades in that area with a score of B. With our short-term care grade, we try to create a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at the facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. It doesn't look like this facility provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The next area we graded was nursing. We awarded this nursing home a solid score in this area, with a B-. While this was not as favorable as many of this facility's other grades, it is nevertheless nothing to be ashamed of. There are quite a few criteria within this category. Many of the subcategories are tied to staffing levels. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. While this place got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it did very well in this subcategory. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a resident more often.
