Facility Inspections
To pair with a strong overall grade, we gave this facility an A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also performed well in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A. Not many facilities fared better in this area. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a life threatening ailment for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

The next category we analyzed was short-term care. Adding to its top-shelf resume, this facility also performed well in that category. In fact, we gave it a grade of of A- for that category. Our short-term care scores are probably most meaningful for patients in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing. This means not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
In our last category, we gave this facility a grade of A+ for our nursing grade. This topped off a first-rate report card. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
