Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its favorable overall score, we gave this facility an A+ for inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. Unfortunately, it does not appear that we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to its fine profile, this nursing home also received a superb long-term care grade, with a grade of A. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a life or death health condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. In calculating our nursing grades, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next area we scored is short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a C. Although this is its least impressive category score, this is still not a bad grade. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. We were not able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
