Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care category, where it earned an A. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. It outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country with 61.7 percent of its residents returning home.
Turning to inspections, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's recent government inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor dings are not necessarily the end of the world.

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. This facility provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Roughly one-fourth of these hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled nurses. This is a high percentage of skilled nursing care. We weight these hours performed by these types of nurses more in calculating our nursing ratings. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning patients more often.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded was long-term care, in which this nursing home received a B-. This proved to be this facility's worst area. This is still not a poor grade. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 96.20253 percent of its patients, which is more than most nursing homes. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital.
