Facility Inspections
To pair with its strong overall score, we awarded this place an A for the area of inspections. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite minor. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so favorably is that it received a favorable long-term care score. In fact, long-term care turned out to be its second most favorable category score. In that area, we awarded this facility a score of A-. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are well cared for. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 67.88733 percent of its residents. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of C in this category is by no means a bad score. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, while this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this metric.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the final area, we gave this facility a grade of D for the area of short-term care. This is the facility's worst category score. Unfortunately, this category pulled down the facility's overall grade to some degree. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. In this nursing home's case, we found that it offered less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
