On top of being a strong facility overall, this nursing home really excelled in our inspections category, where it earned a grade of A-. Few nursing homes fared better in that area. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

This facility received high grades in the area of nursing as well. In fact, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. In computing our nursing grades, we look at both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our more positive scores in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. In computing our short-term care ratings, we size up the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is often a useful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

The final area we assessed is long-term care. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is a very poor grade. We wouldn't simply dismiss a facility because of one poor grade though. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 96.875 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
