We gave this nursing home an A for our short-term care grade. This is much more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. In computing our short-term care scores, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is often a meaningful measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation. This nursing home is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. The final metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Texas in this area with 61.5 percent of its residents returning home.

Another one of this nursing home's stronger areas was in the category of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B+. Our nursing score is largely tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 4.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls leading to major injury, this facility performed as well as any facility Texas. Avoiding serious falls is generally an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

This nursing home's inspection score was yet another category grade that was superior to the facility's overall grade. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a B. Our inspection ratings are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Historical

The last area we assessed was long-term care, ended up being this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this facility a D in that category. This really is one of just a couple of weak points of a strong profile. For prospective patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 94.23077 percent of its patients. These scores were clearly more impressive than several of its other data points in this category. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
