In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Few facilities performed better in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a strong grade in long-term care. This facility received a B in this area, which turns out to be one of our more favorable scores. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. It looks like we may have been missing some information from this nursing home's long-term care statistics, but we were happy with the information we found.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's third most favorable category turned out to be short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B-. In the area of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
The next area we graded was nursing. We gave it a C in this category. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this category. Our nursing grade analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This facility provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
