Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 91.6129 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be slightly below what we were hoping for but still a decent percentage. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to this nursing home's impressive resume, we gave this nursing home a grade of A for inspections. Inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also was strong in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of A-. Few facilities performed better in this area. Our short-term care grade is often employed to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. We were not able to locate registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the last category, this facility also was awarded a first-rate nursing score, with an A-. This topped off a rare straight A profile. Nursing grades are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving patients more often.
