Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall score, this nursing home also received first-rate inspections in recent years. We gave it one of our better grades in this area, with an A. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Among the reasons we rated this nursing home so well is that it received a strong short-term care score. In fact, short-term care turned out to be its second most favorable category score. In that category, we awarded this facility a score of A-. Short-term care ratings are important for prospective residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. We found that it fared better than most facilities in the country with 54.9 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Our nursing score considers a host of subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This facility provided 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This facility fared well in some of the quality measures we looked at. For example, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided with better nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we scored is long-term care. This facility was given a strong long-term care score in our assessment, with a B-. Even though this isn't quite as good as some of its other grades, this remains a respectable score for that category. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 98.947365 percent of its patients against pneumonia. This facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.5 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
