While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

This nursing home's next most favorable area came in the area of short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a C. Our short-term care ratings are meaningful for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. This place performed well in this area with 57.6 percent of its residents returning home.

This nursing home received its third best category score in the area of long-term care. We gave this facility a grade of C in this category, which is an acceptable grade. In determining these long-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.346405 percent of its patients. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 3.87 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was better than most facilities since it had some more complex patients.

The final category we assessed is nursing. This facility was given a grade of C for this category. We assessed the licensure of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours those nurses worked with residents, in determining our rating in this area. This nursing home averages just 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, although this place didn't rank well in terms of nursing hours per resident, it fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than average.
