Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in this area with an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also received an impressive long-term care score. Indeed, we gave it a grade of B in that category, which is one of our more favorable scores. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. We gave this facility an D. When calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we assess the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to the next area, this facility didn't fare very well. Due to a very poor grade of F in short-term care, this was this facility's weakest category. In calculating these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Based on its score in this category, we weren't surprised to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the measures we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected here. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 3.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
