Facility Inspections
Although this facility's overall grade is not a highlight, it received a somewhat respectable score in the area of inspections. We awarded it a B- for that area, which is not bad. Inspection grades are based on several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. The lack of deficiencies proved to be this nursing home's best achievement.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's second most favorable category was its short-term care grade, where it received a grade of B-. Short-term care grades are typically used to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This nursing home boosted its score in this category by offering more physical therapy hours to its residents than the average facility. The final measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that it was respectable in this metric with 49 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing score includes quite a few subcategories, many of which are based on nursing hours. This nursing home provides only 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a somewhat discouraging figure which is well below average. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. While this place did not have as many nursing hours as many of the other facilities we looked at, it was still better than average in the area of avoiding falls. This is generally a reliable indicator of how carefully a facility's nursing staff is tending to its patients. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we scored is long-term care, ended up being this facility's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a D in this category. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 97.00855 percent of its patients for pneumonia. We were far less impressed with the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had 2.78 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is nearly twice the national average.
