Facility Inspections
While we gave this nursing home a bad overall rating, we gave it a fairly respectable score in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of B-. This was better than its other category grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Short-term Care Quality
One of this nursing home's higher category scores came in the area of short-term care. This wound up being its second most favorable category. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B-. Our short-term care grade is often employed to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The real question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.4 percent of this facility's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
The next area we graded is long-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a solid grade of B-. Our long-term care grades are more meaningful for folks requiring more conventional services related to personal care. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 99.11407 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
The next category we rated is nursing, was this nursing home's worst area. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this area. There are many factors within this category. Many of the criteria reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This facility provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is not a very impressive figure. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this facility also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. These metrics hurt this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
