Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall score, we gave this place an A+ for inspections. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite minor. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to its dominant profile, this nursing home also performed well in our long-term care area. In fact, it received a score of A for that category. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was superb in the category of short-term care, where it received a score of A. Not many nursing homes fared better in this category. Our short-term care ratings are arguably most critical for folks in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 6.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded is nursing. This nursing home was awarded a favorable nursing rating this year, with a grade of B. Although this is not quite as dominant as several of its other grades, this remains one of the more impressive scores in that area. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses worked with patients, in computing our grade in this category. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a patient at least once a day.
