Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. When computing our nursing scores, we weigh both staffing levels and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided 5.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This was one of the better totals we found. Furthermore, a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of providing high levels of nursing care, this facility was also above average in several of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. For example, it performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. These datapoints are generally good indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility offers.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its top-shelf resume, this nursing home also received a dominant short-term care grade, with a grade of A. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be more critical for people needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in this area with 58.2 percent of its patients returning home. This is a far higher rate than most nursing homes.
Facility Inspections
Racking up another strong category grade, this facility also excelled in inspections, where it earned an A. Inspection ratings are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report, which is still very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our final category, this nursing home also performed well in the long-term care category. We awarded it a grade of A- for this category. This rounded out a straight A profile. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. One of the statistics we considered after this facility's above average nursing hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for seniors. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.5 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
