Although we did not rate this nursing home highly overall, we want to draw your attention to its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A- in this category. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that have a long list of deficiencies. This facility received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

This nursing home's second most favorable category is short-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is basically a middle of the pack grade in this area. Our short-term care ratings are likely more important for those in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. The last measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This place performed well in this area with 63 percent of its patients returning home. For most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

This nursing home's next best category was long-term care. We awarded it a C in this area. This is basically a middle of the pack grade in this category. For patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this nursing home gave the vaccine to only 27.581697 percent of its residents, which is slightly concerning. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.34 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home.

Switching gears to the fourth category, this facility didn't fare very well in this category either. With a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this is really as as uninspiring as it gets. There are a number of criteria within this grade. Most of the factors are tied to nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged just 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is well below average. On top of receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this place was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and found this nursing home was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This statistic dragged down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
