We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. There are several criteria within this area. Many of the criteria relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides an incredible 5.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering impressive levels of nursing care, this place also fared well in some of the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility outpaced the national average. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly turning residents to avoid bed sores.

We also gave this facility a score of A+ for its short-term care grade. Short-term care ratings are critical for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. It outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 62.6 percent of its residents returning home. This is a substantially better rate than most nursing homes.

Turning the page to our third area, this exemplary facility also fared very well in the area of long-term care. In this area, we gave it a grade of A+. Only a small group of nursing homes fared better in this area. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 94.23077 percent of its patients, which is higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Turning to our inspection category, this nursing home also excelled in this area, where it earned yet another A+. This made it one of the only nursing homes in Indiana to receive A+'s in every category. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
