Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Although we were not complementary of this facility's overall grade, it received an impressive nursing rating this year. We gave it a B in this area. The nursing rating is based on a handful of subcategories, most of which are based on nursing hours. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this nursing home's more favorable category grades was in the category of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. It actually outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 95.53191 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we looked at was short-term care, where this nursing home was given an F. Our short-term care ratings are presumably more meaningful for patients requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.1 percent of its patients returning home.

In our final area of inspections, this nursing home received an F here. With nursing homes that received this poor of an inspection rating, we recommend scrutinizing the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they posed a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, we also want to point out that this facility received significant government fines amounting to more than $100,000. This often means that a nursing home's bad track record spanned multiple years.
