Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
We gave this facility one of our better scores in short-term care, where it received an A-. This is far better than its overall grade, which was certainly not elite. In crafting our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. The nursing score analyzes several components, however, the primary consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place New Mexico in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning patients more often.

Facility Inspections
This nursing home received really weak government inspection reports in recent years, causing them to receive an F for inspections. An F in this area is usually a sign that there were some red flags on the facility's inspection reports. For facilities with bad inspection ratings, you should really focus on any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, we need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received large government fines of over $100,000. This generally indicates that a poor track record spanned several years.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's least impressive area was long-term care, which is the final area we looked at. Sadly, it received an F for this area. Even with a few solid grades in other categories, this score is still of a concern so we would like to to make sure you are aware. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
