Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize that this nursing home has received near flawless inspections recently. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a grade of A+ for its long-term care grade. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to offering elite levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.870056 percent of its residents. This percentage is also much higher than the majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be effective as this place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.57 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. In our short-term care rating, we seek to forge a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This place is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that it fared better than most nursing homes in the country with 55.2 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
In the final category we analyzed, this nursing home received an impressive grade grade of A in our nursing category. With this score, the facility completed a straight A profile. Our nursing grade is primarily associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provided 6.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is among the highest totals in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We were very impressed by both of these statistics. On top of looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these data points as good measures of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
